The disciples struggled for hours to sail their boat against a severe wind on the Sea of Galilee. When they saw Jesus nearby, walking on the water’s surface, they were “terrified”; thinking He was a “ghost”.
Jesus approached them saying: “Have courage! It is I. Do not be afraid”.
He then boarded the boat and “the wind ceased”. (Mark 6: 45-52)
Jesus was challenging the disciple’s to overcome their daily fears by placing their entire trust in Him.
Do I earnestly seek God’s help when I am troubled, fearful?
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to your great power. Instil in me an understanding of the mighty love and mercy that you extend to me.
Prayer: The Lord is My Shepherd
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in pastures green,
He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and kindness will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Amen.
