St Aldegonde (ca 639-684) was from the Merovingian Royal Family in the County of Hainaut, NW France. Her father and mother were both made Saints, St Walbert and St Bertila.
St Aldegonde refused multiple royal marriage offers. Instead, she chose a cloistered life of prayer while setting up a small hospital on the banks of the River Sambre at Malbode, on whose waters she is said to have miraculously walked. The hospital later became the famous Maubeuge Abbey.
At 44yrs, St Aldegonde died from breast cancer. Her Feast Day is 30th January. She is Patron Saint of breast cancer sufferers.

Short Quote: When Jesus was asked what the kingdom of God could be compared to, he replied, “It is like a mustard seed that when sown in the ground, even though it is the smallest of all the seeds, becomes the greatest of all garden plants, and grows large branches so that the wild birds can nest in its shade”. (Mark 4:31-32)
Private Reflection: “Be good, love the Lord, pray for those who do not know Him. What a great grace it is to know God!” (St Josephine Bakhita)
Prayer: Guidance (Basil of Caesarea)
Steer the ship of my life, good Lord,
to your quiet harbour,
where I can be safe from the storms of sin and conflict.
Show me the course I should take.
Renew in me the gift of discernment,
so that I can always see the right direction in which I should go.
And give me the strength and the courage to choose the right course,
even when the sea is rough and the waves are high,
knowing that through enduring hardship and danger,
in your name we shall find comfort and peace.
St Aldegonde: Pray for Us
