Magnificat

Small red coloured Cross

My soul glorifies the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.
He looks on his servant in her lowliness;
henceforth all ages will call me blessed.
The Almighty works marvels for me.
Holy his name.
His mercy is from age to age,
on those who fear him.
He puts forth his arm in strength
and scatters the proud-hearted.
He casts the mighty from their thrones
and raises the lowly.
He fills the starving with good things,
sends the rich away empty.
He protects Israel, his servant,
remembering his mercy,
the mercy promised to our fathers,
to Abraham and his sons for ever. Amen.

Most Holy Spirit

The Feast of The Most Holy Trinity

The Trinity consists of three persons in the one Divine God; the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Throughout the Gospels we find numerous references to all three. They were notably present at Jesus’ baptism, by John the Baptist in the River Jordan. The Holy Spirit appeared as a dove, God the Father as a voice from heaven saying, “This is my Son in whom I am well pleased” and Jesus.

+In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen+

The VisitationShort Story: Before Jesus ascended to heaven, he said to his disciples, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:27-28)

Thoughts: We profess our faith to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit through the simple act of the Sign of the Cross; it has many meanings and many blessings.

Reflection: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Prayer: Holy Spirit
Breathe into me Holy Spirit,
that my thoughts may be holy.
Move in me, Holy Spirit,
that my work too, may be holy.
Take my heart, Holy Spirit,
that I may love only what is holy.
Strengthen me, Holy Spirit,
that I may defend all that is holy.
Protect me, Holy Spirit,
that I may always be holy.

Prayer 31st May – Visitation by Mary

Feast of the Visitation by Mary

+In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen+

The VisitationShort Story: The Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her that she would bear a Son, Jesus. The Angel also said that her cousin Elizabeth was already six months pregnant. This was amazing news since Elizabeth was old and barren. Mary, probably accompanied by Joseph, ‘hurriedly’ went to visit Elizabeth, an estimated 160kms (100mls). When Mary arrived Elizabeth exclaimed with a loud voice, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child in your womb. And who am I that the mother of my Lord should come and visit me? For the instant the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy”. (Luke 1:42-44) Mary stayed with Elizabeth for three months, possibly until the birth of Elizabeth’s son, John the Baptist.

Mary’s Thoughts at this time were:
My soul glorifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour.
He looks on his servant in her lowliness; henceforth all ages will call me blessed.
The Almighty works marvels for me. Holy his name!
His mercy is from age to age, on those who fear him.
He puts forth his arm in strength and scatters the proud-hearted.
He casts the mighty from their thrones and raises the lowly.
He fills the starving with good things, sends the rich away empty.
He protects Israel, his servant, remembering his mercy,
the mercy promised to our fathers, to Abraham and his sons forever. Amen.

Private Reflection: The Angelus Prayer:
L: The Angel of the Lord declared onto Mary,
R: and she was conceived of the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary …

L: Behold the handmaid of the Lord,
R:  be it done onto me according to Thy word. Hail Mary …

L: The word was made flesh,
R: and He dwelt amongst us. Hail Mary …

L: Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,
R: that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: Pour forth we beseech Thee O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ Thy Son was made known by the message of an Angel, may by His passion and cross be brought to the glory of His resurrection; through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
