The Epiphany is a celebration of the revelation of God the Son, as a human being, in Jesus Christ. It is sometimes known as the feast of The Three Kings because of its association with the Three Wise Men.
Originally, the feast commemorated the birth of Jesus, the visitation by the three wise men, Jesus’ first miracle at Cana and Jesus’ Baptism. Today, Jesus’ birth, baptism and first miracle are celebrated elsewhere in the Liturgical Calendar leaving only the visit by the Wise Men.
In many parts of the world, it remains the custom to share gifts with family and friends on this day, just as the three Wise Men carried gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to the baby Jesus.
The Solemnity of the Epiphany is the 6th of January.
