Regina Caeli or Queen of Heaven (Feastday – 22nd August) is one of the many titles bestowed on the Blessed Virgin Mary. This title originates from Mary’s assumption into heaven and her crowning as its Queen. Pope Pius XII encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam, states that “Mary is called Queen of Heaven because her son, Jesus Christ, is the king of Israel and heavenly King of the universe”.
Mary, the earthly Mother of Jesus, and her husband Joseph would have enjoyed many wonderful family moments but she also suffered greatly as Jesus was condemned, tortured and crucified. Her reward, however, is now everlasting happiness with God the Father.
