On Christmas Day, billions of Christians around the world will stop their daily routine to celebrate our Saviours birth (0-5AD), Jesus Christ.
It was on this day, more than two thousand years ago, that Jesus was born in Bethlehem to the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Joseph.
Mary and Joseph had travelled from Nazareth to Bethlehem to register for taxes, as instructed by the Provincial Governor. On arrival, they couldn’t find an Inn to stay the night, so they were forced to use a stable for shelter, among the farm animals. In the stable, Mary gave birth to the baby Jesus.
The proud mother Mary, taking the baby Jesus, “wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in the manger”. (Luke 2:7)
Loving God:
Help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.
Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.
May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake. Amen. (Robert Louis Stevenson)
