Prayer is Love, I want to Love

Angela of Foligno

St Angela (1248 – 1309) was born into a wealthy Christian family at Foligno, Italy. She married at an early age and had several children.

Sketch of St Angela of Foligno

St Angela made a sudden change to her carefree lifestyle in her late thirties when she received a vision from St Francis.

Over the following few years, her mother, all of her children and her husband died. She repented of her past, became a Catholic and disposed of her entire wealth.

At the age of forty-three, St Angela joined the Order of St Francis and thereafter created her own Order whose purpose was to care for the poor and needy.

St Angela wrote extensively about her mystical experiences. She was declared a Saint by Pope Francis in October 2013. Her Feast Day is the 4th of January (7th of January in the US). She is the Patron Saint of widows.

St Angela of Foligno:

Pray that we will be blessed with a true understanding of the plight of the poor and suffering, fight for their human rights and freely share our worldly riches with them.

Glory be to the Father…
