Daily Prayers

Prayer is Love, I want to Love

St Peregrine of Laziosi

Background: St Peregrine (1260 – 1345) was born in Italy. After a turbulent youth, he repented of his sins, joined the Servite Order and was ordained a priest, devoting his life to preaching, penance and helping the sick and poor. He became well known for his miracles. St Peregrine developed a cancerous deformity of his leg which required amputating. The night before the operation, while praying in front of a Crucifix, he fell into a deep trance. During the trance he experienced Jesus descending from the cross and touching his leg. The following day when the doctor arrived to perform the operation, the cancer had gone. His Feast Day is the 1st May.

Small Red-coloured Cross

St Peregrine, you answered the Divine call with a ready spirit and forsook all the comforts of the world to dedicate yourself to God in the Order of his most Holy Mother. You laboured manfully for the salvation of souls; and in union with Jesus Crucified, you endured the most painful sufferings with such patience as to deserve to be healed miraculously of an incurable cancer by a touch of His Divine Hand.
