Background: St Benedict was the son of a Roman noble. His twin sister was Saint Scolastica. St Benedict lived mainly a hermit-like life, becoming a greatly respected figure through his sanctity, prayer life and numerous miracles. He founded many monasteries as well as the great Benedictine Monastery of Monte Cassino. He predicted the day of his own death; dying of fever not long after his sister. They are buried together. St Benedict is the Patron Saint of Europe and Students. His Feast Day is 11th July.
O Glorious St Benedict,
Listen to me as I humbly seek your help.
I implore thy loving heart to pray for me before the throne of God.
I ask for your protection from all
Shield me against my enemies, inspire me to imitate thee in all things and may your blessing remain with me, so that I can avoid all sin.
St Benedict, graciously obtain for me the favours and graces for which I stand in need, in the trials, miseries and afflictions of life.
Your heart was always so full of love, compassion, and mercy toward those who were afflicted or troubled in any way. You never dismissed without consolation and assistance anyone who turned to you.
I therefore ask for your powerful intercession, in the confident hope that you will hear my prayers and obtain for me the special grace and favour I so earnestly implore:
