Jesus’ Life: Chapter 10 – Jesus’ Last Journey To Jerusalem
“Aren’t you lucky?” We have all heard someone receive such praise. Indeed, we probably used the same words, on numerous occasions, to praise others. But, it’s still sometimes hard to fathom why some people’s lives seem to run smoothly while others, apparently remain in total disarray. Why?
When Jesus heard a woman shout out to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts at which you nursed,” He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it!”
Jesus’ words could be compared to a patient who receives a course of medication for a serious illness but then the patient decides not to take the medicine and continues to suffer from the illness. Why?
Such behaviour may seem totally bizarre but that’s what Jesus was saying about those who seek eternal happiness. Once they hear the Word of God, they must then obey the message! (Luke 11:27-28)
Thought
Instead of asking God to put a little luck into my life today, maybe I should reflect on the advice He has already given to me and follow it!
Reflection
Lord Jesus, help me to realise that you have blessed me with the gifts to follow your ways but often, I fail to use them. Amen.
Prayer: Guidance (Basil of Caesarea)
Steer the ship of my life, good Lord,
to your quiet harbour,
where I can be safe from the storms of sin and conflict.
Show me the course I should take.
Renew in me the gift of discernment,
so that I can always see the right direction in which I should go.
And give me the strength and the courage to choose the right course,
even when the sea is rough and the waves are high,
knowing that through enduring hardship and danger,
in your name, we shall find comfort and peace.
