Jesus’ Life: Chapter 10 – Jesus’ Last Journey To Jerusalem
Many times in my life I have listened to storytellers share the most wonderful of narratives and skillfully entertain attentive and bemused crowds with words of joy and happiness. Then, at the right moment, they have ended their story with a few simple words of wisdom and drawn a deep silence from their audience.
The seventy-two disciples that Jesus sent out to preach, returned delighting in their experiences. Their mission was a great success and they had numerous accounts of events to share. By divine power, they had healed the sick and demons had submitted to their commands.
Jesus quietly listened to all their stories and celebrated in their joy. Then he said to them, “Do not rejoice that the demons submit to you, but rejoice that your names stand written in heaven”. (Luke 10:17-20)
Thought
When we obey Jesus’ teachings and use our gifts wisely, we can also rejoice knowing that, “Our names will be written in heaven”.
Reflection
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to the gifts you have given me. Help me to use them, as you intended.
Prayer: Holy Spirit
Most Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul, I adore You.
Enlighten me, guide me, comfort me, console me.
I promise to submit myself to all You desire of me,
And permit all You wish to happen to me.
Give me Your help, tell me what to do.
Most Holy Spirit, bring peace to my world. Amen.
