Prayer is Love, I want to Love

The Promise Of The Holy Spirit

Jesus’ Life: Chapter 17 – Jesus’ Last Supper Messages

Jesus said to his Apostles, “If you love me, you will obey my commandments. Then I will ask the Father, and he will give you… [The Holy Spirit] to be with you forever”.

Jesus was telling his Apostles to show their love for him, not through mourning his death but by obeying his teachings and spreading his Gospel. He spoke lovingly about the Holy Spirit and promised that, although he was ascending to heaven, the Holy Spirit would, “Teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you”.

Jesus promised his Apostles, “I will not abandon you as orphans, I will come to you. In a little while the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too;” Jesus’ death on the Cross would not lead to their separation.

Ten days after Jesus’ Ascension to Heaven, the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles, as He promised, giving them the power and strength to go out and teach his Gospel to all nations. (John 14:15-26)

Thought

The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord.

The twelve fruits of the Holy Spirit are charity (love), joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, long-suffering, mildness, faith, modesty, continence (self-control) and chastity.

They are available to everyone, through the sacraments. Let the Holy Spirit dwell in you!

Reflection

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love.
Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created,
and You shall renew the face of the earth.

Prayer: Faith (Adapted Unknown Author)

Lord, let my faith be full and unreserved
and let it penetrate my thoughts.

Lord, let my faith be joyful
and give peace and gladness to my spirit.

Lord, let my faith be humble
and let it surrender to the testimony of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
