Jesus’ Life: Chapter 12 – Jesus’ Ministry In Judea
Jesus and his disciples had travelled from Jericho to Bethany, the home of Lazarus. They were on their way to celebrate the Feast of the Passover in Jerusalem.
The news that Jesus had previously raised Lazarus from the dead, having been entombed for four days, and that Jesus was now back in Bethany spread throughout Judea. The people wanted to see not only Jesus but Lazarus. Since Bethany was just two miles from Jerusalem, it was an easy journey for many to make and they poured into the town.
On seeing Jesus and Lazarus, many believed that Jesus was the Messiah and He had raised Lazarus from the dead.
However, when the news that the people were turning to Jesus reached the chief priests in Jerusalem, they were incensed and some planned to kill Lazarus, as well as Jesus. (John 12:9-11)
Thought
Selfishness, power, hatred, anger, vengeance… where is love?
Amidst the celebration of Lasarus’ rising, there was also much unease and turmoil among the people of Bethany and beyond! How would it all end?
Reflection
Lord Jesus, I pray that all people throughout the world receive the freedom to follow your Holy Word and then reap your promises of eternal life.
Prayer: Trust
O Christ Jesus,
when all is darkness
and we feel our weakness and helplessness,
give us the sense of Your presence,
Your love, and Your strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
in Your protecting love
and strengthening power,
so that nothing may frighten or worry us,
for, living close to You,
we shall see Your hand,
Your purpose, Your will through all things.
