Parable Of The Flood And Call To Watchfulness

Jesus’ Life: Chapter 15 – Jesus’ Ministry Before His Passion

Do you take heed of warnings?

On most occasions people generally do but surprisingly, we often ignore the potentially most dangerous; not wearing a seat belt or safety helmet, driving carelessly when not fully fit or going swimming when we can’t swim. Yes, thousands throughout the world will die today from such failures including, the most intelligent among us!

Sign: Alert!

Will thousands, likewise, die today without taking heed of Jesus’ warning? I don’t know but I pray they don’t. Jesus said, “Stay alert, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have been alert”.

A state of readiness means, being free from sin and living by Jesus’ teachings. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can all enjoy that daily joy of loving God.

Jesus reminded us of the parallel situation in Noah’s time when many didn’t “stay alert”. He said, “Before the floods came, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark”, then the flood came and took them all away.

Jesus said of the day he returns, “There will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one left. There will be two women grinding grain with a mill; one will be taken and one left”.

That’s the reality of not listening! (Matthew 24:37-44, Mark 13:35, Luke 17:26-36)

Thought

Don’t be the person left behind! The idea of, “let’s postpone that problem until tomorrow” or “I won’t die today”, usually means, I won’t bother! Not a great plan!

Get a hard-hat and a life-jacket!

Lord Jesus, rescue me from my sinful ways, forgive me my sins and keep me wise until you return.

Prayer: Humility

Most humble Jesus,
give me a share of your humility.
Take from my heart, everything that displeases you;
convert it totally to you,
so that I may no longer will or desire
anything other than what you will.
