Prayer is Love, I want to Love

The Coming Of The Son Of Man

Jesus’ Life: Chapter 14 – The Olivet Discourse

Jesus dearly wanted us to, “Be ready,” for his second coming.

It will happen in God’s time. We do not know the “day and hour”.“Not even the Son” knows the time “but the Father only”. (Mark 13:32, Matthew 24:36)

Road Sign: Danger Ahead

Jesus said, “There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars and on the earth nations will be in distress, anxious over the roaring of the sea and the surging waves…”

There is no valid reason to suggest these words should not be taken literally. After all, the sun darkened as Jesus bowed his head and gave up his spirit on the Cross. Jesus’ overriding point, however, was that it will happen.

St Augustine of Hippo said, “He has come the first time, and he will come again” and “He who is without anxiety waits without fear until his Lord comes. For what sort of love of Christ is it to fear his coming?” (Matthew 24:29-31, Mark 13:24-27, Luke 21:25-28)

Thought

“Are we really certain that we love God? Or do we love our sins more? Therefore, let us hate our sins and love him who will exact punishment for them”. (St Augustine of Hippo)

Reflection

Lord God Almighty, I surrender myself to you and wish to be drawn closer to you. I love you with my whole heart, rescue me from my selfish ways.

Prayer: Guidance

Steer the ship of my life, good Lord,
to your quiet harbour,
where I can be safe from the storms of sin and conflict.
Show me the course I should take.
Renew in me the gift of discernment,
so that I can always see the right direction in which I should go.
And give me the strength and the courage to choose the right course,
even when the sea is rough and the waves are high,
knowing that through enduring hardship and danger,
in your name, we shall find comfort and peace.
