Jesus’ Life: Chapter 14 – The Olivet Discourse
Have you read any recent warnings about pending tragedies, disasters or even the forthcoming end of the world? Well, if not, you are another very selective reader who avoids the often hyped-up news articles. Their real purpose is, of course, to make headlines and sell media-space or other products.
In contrast, God’s silence is intriguing. He just waits for the right time or His time to intervene in our life. He knows us best, so he knows our needs. By accepting this simple principle, trusting Him, we will become more at ease, despite all daily trials, and receive his loving joy.
When Jesus was asked about the ‘end of age’ he said, “Watch out that you are not misled. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them… And when you hear of wars and rebellions, do not be afraid. For these things must happen first, but the end will not come at once”.
As we get older, we generally become more understanding and patient, and Jesus’ words become a perfect assurance that we need no other guidance. (Matthew 24:3-8, Mark 13:3-8, Luke 21:7-11)
Thought
St Augustine pointed out, knowing when the world ends is not important, preparing for our death is what matters. God will fulfil his plan for you and me when He wills.
Reflection
Lord Jesus, keep me focused on you and your teachings. Let me not become preoccupied with irrelevant distractions.
Prayer: To The Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love.
Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created,
and You shall renew the face of the earth.
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit
instructed the hearts of the faithful.
Grant, that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise
and ever rejoice in His consolation.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
