Chapter 1 – The Prophet John The Baptist
Story No. 4 of 11 (Mt 3:1-6, Mk 1:2-6, Lk 3:1-6, Jn 1:19-23)
John the Baptist was a very brave and committed man. He started preaching his Good News message before Jesus embarked on his ministry. He told the people that he was preparing them for Jesus’ coming and reminded them that he was not the Christ but, preparing for the Messiah, our Saviour.
John attracted great crowds to hear his message and be baptised by the River Jordan. John also had a group of disciples who helped him spread his message. The message was direct. He said, repent of your sins and be baptised.
Thought
What stops me from unlocking what’s in my heart and openly preaching it to others? Am I afraid of what they might say? Am I afraid of failure?
Every day is another opportunity for me to be courageous like John the Baptist!
Reflection
St John, you were a man of great courage and sacrifice.
You gave your life, preparing for Jesus’ coming.
I pray now that I may also have that same courage,
to repent, put others first and tell my friends about Jesus.
Prayer: Daily Prayer (St Francis)
Lord, help me to live this day, quietly, easily;
to lean on your great strength, trustfully, respectfully;
to wait for the unfolding of your will, patiently, serenely;
to meet others, peacefully, joyfully;
to face tomorrow, confidently, courageously.
