Prayer is Love, I want to Love

“Let Not Your Hearts Be Troubled”

Jesus’ Life: Chapter 17 – Jesus’ Last Supper Messages

As Jesus spoke to the Apostles during the Last Supper, Philip asked Him to show them God the Father.

Jesus’ reply was direct. He said, “Whoever has seen me, has seen the Father” and rhetorically asked Philip, “Have I been with you for so long, and you have not known me, Philip?

I recall, as a very young child, hearing for the first time three huge “O” words. They were used by my teacher to describe God. Today, the same three words resonate, in multiple forms, in my daily thoughts.

The words were:

Omnipotent – He is all-powerful,
Omniscient – He is all-knowing,
Omnipresent – He is everywhere.

To reinforce his point, Jesus said to the Apostles: “Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, but if you do not believe me, believe because of the miraculous deeds themselves”.

Jesus had performed numerous miracles during his ministry and Philip witnessed many of them. Philip had also, through Jesus’ power, performed miracles; healing the sick and removing unclean spirits. (John 14:1-14)

Thought

Even the hardened ‘disbeliever’ has trouble shrugging aside Jesus’ words, “Don’t be troubled. Believe in God. Believe in Me”.

Reflection

Lord Jesus, I pray for disbelievers. May they see you as you truly are and watch your promises become their reality.

Prayer: Light (Gospel Extracts)

The light of God surrounds me,
the love of God enfolds me,
the power of God protects me,
the presence of God watches over me,
wherever I am, God is,
and where God is, all is perfect.
