Jesus’ Life: Chapter 8 – Jesus’ Ministry In Galilee (Part 3)
Some Pharisees and Herod wanted to find fault with Jesus. Perhaps it was their own insecurity that drove them to do so! Jesus was aware of their thoughts and warned his disciples about their intentions saying, “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”
Jesus used the word ‘yeast’ in symbolic form while referring to their doctrines or teachings. As yeast slowly permeates all parts of dough and causes it to rise, so also, the Pharisees and Herod’s ill comments could slowly permeate people’s thinking and inform their actions.
Be cautious of their attitude and intentions, he was saying to the disciples.
As the disciples discovered later, the very negative ‘attitude’ of the Pharisees and others led to Jesus’ death on the Cross. (Mt 16:5-12, Mk 8:14-21, Lk 12:1)
Thought
Our attitude matters. It influences others.
Spread a positive attitude among the people you meet; show an attitude of love, care, concern, helpfulness, selfishness, honesty, passion… and sincere consideration for others.
Reflection
Lord Jesus, grant me the wisdom to help others today and do only what pleases you. Amen.
Prayer: Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love.
Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created,
and You shall renew the face of the earth.
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit
instructed the hearts of the faithful.
Grant, that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise
and ever rejoice in His consolation.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
