Jesus Promises Fulfillment On The Law And The Prophets

Jesus’ Life: Chapter 5 – The Sermon On The Mount

Although Jesus taught a new faith to his disciples, he stressed that He, the Son of God, had not come to abolish Old Testament teachings. Instead, He said, I have come to fulfil them.

Moses Receives Commandments

The Old Testament contains many laws and prophecies. The best-known laws are the Ten Commandments and the best-known prophecies, the coming of Jesus, his life, death and resurrection.

Jesus said, “Whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”

Jesus spoke these words to his newly appointed twelve Apostles; their role, to spread his teachings to the world. (Matthew 5:17-20, Luke 16:16-17)

Thought

Today, a bullish behaviour is often glorified through social circles, giving an impression the ten commandments are old fashioned. That’s far from God’s plan.

As we grow in union with God, we must hold a clear distinction between right and wrong. We must also take the time to define our own personal values, morals, integrity and goodness.

Be proud of yourself, the good that lies in your heart.

Reflection

Lord Jesus, help me to see only good in others. Direct me towards your ways of compassion, forgiveness and love.

Prayer: Union With Jesus

Lord Jesus:
I give you my hands to do your work
I give you my feet to go your way
I give you my eyes to see as you do
I give you my tongue to speak your words
I give you my mind that you may think in me
I give you my spirit that you may pray in me
Above all:
I give you my heart that you may love in me,
your Father and all mankind.
I give you my whole self that you may grow in me,
So that it is you, Lord Jesus,
who live and work and pray in me.
