Jesus Heals A Deaf Mute

Jesus’ Life: Chapter 8 – Jesus’ Ministry In Galilee (Part 3)

Doing something good, gets noticed. But sometimes, not being noticed, is preferred!

When Jesus was asked to help a deaf man with speech difficulties, he took him aside, so people might not notice. Then putting his fingers in the man’s ears and touching his tongue, he looked to heaven and said, “Be opened”. Immediately, the man was able to hear and speak clearly.

Jesus then asked the people around to tell no one, but it seemed, the more he asked, the more people celebrated. (Matthew 15:29-31, Mark 7:31-37)

Finger-Lips silence symbol

It is often said, there is a time and a place for everything. So, when is it the time for keeping things secret, going unnoticed?

Although Jesus didn’t want attention to be drawn to Himself or incite the Pharisees He also once reminded us to keep our good deeds secret otherwise, God the Father will have nothing to reward us for in Heaven!

Reflection

Lord Jesus, thank You for your many special graces including, my gift of hearing and speech.

Prayer: Guidance (Basil of Caesarea)

Steer the ship of my life, good Lord,
to your quiet harbour,
where I can be safe from the storms of evil and conflict.
Show me the course I should take.
Renew in me the gift of discernment,
so that I can always see the right direction in which I should go.
And give me the strength and the courage to choose the right course,
even when the sea is rough and the waves are high,
knowing that through enduring hardship and danger,
in your name, I shall find comfort and peace.
