Jesus’ Life: Chapter 9 – The Way To The Cross
You have been given a new gift, excited!
Yes, of course, maybe it’s a smartphone, camera, or household item. However, despite your best efforts, you can’t get it to work! Yes, we have all been there, done that, often we didn’t read the instructions!
The disciples also found themselves in the same predicament. Jesus gave them the power to heal the sick but, when it came to one young boy, they were unable to do so.
The boy’s father went to Jesus, knelt before Him and said, “Lord, have mercy on my son because he has seizures and suffers terribly, for he often falls into the fire and into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they were not able to heal him”. Jesus told the man to bring his son to Him. When the father brought the boy, Jesus healed him.
Later, the disciples asked Jesus why they were unable to heal the boy. He said, “It was because of your little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; nothing will be impossible for you”. (Matthew 17:14-21, Mark 9:14-29, Luke 9:37-43a)
Thought
Faith is not an item that can be purchased at the local store, if only! But it can be acquired through prayer and absolute trust in Jesus. The disciples didn’t put their entire trust in Jesus, they doubted.
Reflection
Lord Jesus, I renew my faith in you. I trust you with my whole heart. Guide me to your eternal kingdom. Amen
Prayer:
Gracious and Holy Father,
give us the wisdom to discover You,
the intelligence to understand You,
the diligence to seek after You,
the patience to wait for You,
eyes to behold You,
a heart to meditate upon You,
and a life to proclaim You,
through the power of the Spirit of Jesus, our Lord. Amen.
