Jesus Explains The Return Of Unclean Spirits

Jesus’ Life: Chapter 6 – Jesus’ Ministry In Galilee (Part 2)

Housekeeping isn’t easy. No sooner have we dusted, swept and mopped our home, than dirt starts to reappear. The chore can be very frustrating and tiring.

Cleaning tools

The Apostles cast out many demons. They received Divine Power from the Holy Spirit to do so. But, for those whom the demons had left, the task of keeping their soul free from sin and demons had just begun.

Jesus said, “When an unclean spirit goes out of a person, it passes through waterless places looking for rest but not finding any… it says, ‘I will return to the home I left’.”

Remaining in God’s grace is like housekeeping. After receiving God’s forgiveness, temptation can quickly follow once again. The devil awaits every opportunity and little-by-little can sneak back in.

Just as the Apostles used the power of the Holy Spirit to remove demons, we need the Holy Spirit to keep the demons at bay. (Matthew 12:43-45, Luke 11:24-26)

Thought

A child told his classmates that he enjoyed playing for his football team, even though it was his fifth consecutive game on the losing side. When asked why, he said, “My Mum and Dad were watching”.

That’s what the Holy Spirit does, keeps watch and protects.

Reflection

Holy Spirit, guard and protect me all day long so that I remain faithful to the teachings of Jesus Christ and gain the promised rewards of eternal happiness in Heaven.

Prayer: Holy Spirit

Come Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love.
Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created,
and You shall renew the face of the earth.

O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit
instructed the hearts of the faithful.
Grant, that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise
and ever rejoice in His consolation.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
