Jesus’ Life: Chapter 6 – Jesus’ Ministry In Galilee (Part 2)
Sometimes the messages and symbolism of Jesus’ work are difficult for us to understand! Perhaps that’s not surprising since, He lived on earth some two thousand years ago and cultural practices then, were very different from today.
When Jesus approached two demon-possessed men, the demons, knowing Jesus was the Son of God, cried out to be left alone but Jesus was not going to do so. They then asked Jesus to cast them into a nearby herd of swine; Jesus granted them their wish. He expelled them to the herd, which in turn ran down a hillside, into the sea and drowned.
Among Jesus’ many messages through this healing miracle, was that evil had no power over Him nor, had it any power over even swine! The swine ran to the sea and drowned.
Two thousand years later, evil still has no power over Jesus. (Matthew 8:28-34, Mark 5:1-20, Luke 8:26-39)
Thought
Evil surrounds us in our world today. Our prayers are our daily defence.
Reflection
Almighty God, hear the prayers of all who call on you for help. May they find peace and joy in your protective love. This I ask through your beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Michael The Archangel
Holy Michael the Archangel,
defend us in the day of battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust down to hell satan
and all the wicked spirits
who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
