False Christs and False Prophets

Jesus’ Life: Chapter 14 – The Olivet Discourse

Today, warning signs are everywhere in our world. They are attached to our food, clothes, toys and probably everything imaginable. That means we are surrounded by them in the home, at work and on the street. They serve a critical purpose; keeping us safe.

Do we always follow their advice? No, sadly not!

Holy Bible

As well as prophesying the destruction of Jerusalem which occurred in 70AD, Jesus’ also warned about false messiahs and prophets. “Remember”, he said, “I have told you ahead of time. So then, if someone says to you, ‘Look, he [Christ] is in the wilderness,’ do not go out, or ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe him”.

His prophecy was fulfilled. False prophets such as Jonathan and Barcochab led many Jews out of the city of Jerusalem with assurances of great wonders but they couldn’t deliver.

At the same time, Jesus also prophesied the rapid spread of Christianity. His prophecy is still being delivered. Christianity is now the world’s most practised faith in less than 2,000yrs. (Matthew 24:23-28, Mark 13:21-23, Luke 17:23-24, 37b)

Thought

God has given us the freedom of choice, to act on his messages or ignore them. Preparing for our inevitable death is preparing for Jesus’ second coming.

Pray for those who have chosen to walk in the opposite direction.

Reflection

Lord Jesus, you sacrificed your life for my sins. As I now strive to live my life by your teachings, guide me through earth’s sorrows and lead me to heaven’s joy.

Prayer: Teach Us

Teach us Good Lord;
To serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labour and to ask for no reward,
Save that of knowing we do your will.
