Extract
The Pharisees complained to Jesus that his Disciples didn’t wash their hands when they ate; it was a Jewish tradition.
Jesus replied, “What defiles a person is not what goes into the mouth; it is what comes out of the mouth”. (Matthew 15:11)
Thought
It is often said that “the tongue is mightier than the sword” – the words that come out of one’s mouth!
Perhaps, an extension of the comment could be, “the tongue and the sword can both inflict terrible lifelong damage”!
Reflection
Lord Jesus, as I meet your people today, may I cause neither physical nor verbal pain. Instead, may I be a constant source of welcome, comfort and trust. This I ask through your beloved mother, Mary.
Prayer: Come Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful,
and kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love.
Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created,
and You shall renew the face of the earth.
Oh God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit
instructed the hearts of the faithful.
Grant, that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise and
ever rejoice in His consolation.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
