Prayer is Love, I want to Love

Parable Of The Growing Seed (2)

Extract:

Quote: The Holy Spirit

Jesus said that the kingdom of God is like someone who sows seed, goes to sleep and as he gets up day after day, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.

“By itself, the soil produces a crop, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head. And when the grain is ripe, he sends in the sickle (cutting implement) because the harvest has come.” (Mark 4:26-29)

Thought

A parable is a short story with characters or symbols designed to illustrate a message.

In this parable, the sower represents our parents, teachers or preachers, the seed represents the Gospel, the field those who hear it, the growing plant God working through the Holy Spirit, and the harvest the end of the world or our death.

Our parents, priests and teachers eagerly share the Gospel of Jesus with us. However, they cannot force us to grow spiritually. Only through living the Gospel messages and our use of the sacraments, will we be nurtured by the Holy Spirit, growing first “the stalk and then the head”!

Reflection

Lord Jesus, fill me with your Divine Spirit, grant me the strength to carry my small burden and enable me to help others to do likewise as I live today.

Prayer: Holy Spirit

Most Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul, I adore You.
Enlighten me, guide me, comfort me, console me.
I promise to submit myself to all You desire of me,
And permit all You wish to happen to me.
Give me Your help, tell me what to do.
Most Holy Spirit, bring peace to my world. Amen.
