Some Disciples Stop Following Jesus (1)

Extract

Holy Eucharist celebration

When Jesus announced to his disciples, “The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day,” many stopped following Him.

They commented, “This is a difficult statement! Who can understand it?”. (John 6:54, 60)

Thought

The literal meaning of what Jesus said was unacceptable to many of the disciples, their faith was weak so, they took the easy option, they stopped following Him.

Today people joyfully celebrate as they eat and drink the Sacred Body and Blood of Jesus during the Holy Mass. The Holy Eucharist is at the centre of our Catholic Church’s life.

Reflection

Almighty God, thank you for your Sacred Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I adore You and pray that the hearts of all unbelievers will come to accept your great gift to the world of your Sacred Body and Blood.

The Holy Eucharist is a Sacrament, instituted by Christ. The sacrament effects union with Christ; it is nourishment for the soul, gives an increase in grace and remits venial sin and punishment. (Catholic Online)

Prayer: Service of the Poor

Make us worthy, Lord,
to serve our brothers and sisters throughout the world,
who live and die in poverty and hunger.
Give them, through our hands,
this day their daily bread,
and by our understanding love,
give them peace and joy.
Make us, Lord,
worthy to serve our brothers and sisters,
scattered all over the world,
who live and die alone and poor.
Give them today, using our hands, their daily bread.
And, using our love, give them peace and happiness. Amen.
