Second Prediction of Jesus’ Death and Resurrection

Death And Destruction

When Jesus and his disciples were gathered together in Galilee, he told them that He would one day be betrayed and “They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised”. (Matthew 17:22-23)

Thought

Hearing Jesus prophesies his death, for the second time, must have been a great shock to his disciples. He was a true friend, as well as the Son of God.

Of course, any talk of death reminds us of our own mortality and the obvious questions linger, are we prepared and ready?

But what must the disciples have thought when Jesus, once again, added, He will rise on the third day?

Reflection

Lord Jesus, it was for my sins that you accepted death. Your love for me had no limits.

Good Shepherd, keep my eyes and heart firmly focused on you.

Prayer: Most Holy Mary (St John Bosco)

Most Holy Virgin Mary, Help of Christians,
how sweet it is to come to your feet
imploring your perpetual help.
If earthly mothers cease not to remember their children,
how can you, the most loving of all mothers forget me?
Grant then to me, I implore you,
your perpetual help in all my necessities,
in every sorrow, and especially in all my temptations.
I ask for your unceasing help for all who are now suffering.
Help the weak, cure the sick, convert sinners.
Grant through your intercessions
many vocations to the religious life.
Obtain for us, O Mary, Help of Christians,
that having invoked you on earth
we may love and eternally thank you in heaven.
