Jesus sent seventy-two of his disciples out to preach his good news in the surrounding towns and villages.
They were overjoyed when they returned; not least because of their given power to cast out demons and heal the sick.
Jesus listened to their many stories of joy and then “rejoiced in the Holy Spirit” saying, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your gracious will”. (Luke 10:21)
On this beautiful occasion, a very happy Jesus rejoiced at the successful spread of his Gospel, many had until then refused to listen.
Lord Jesus, thank you for your love. I delight in your joy when people accept your Gospel. Help me to be more like one of your seventy-two and spread your message to others so that they too may experience the joy of your love.
Prayer: Most Holy Mary (St John Bosco)
Most Holy Virgin Mary, Help of Christians,
how sweet it is to come to your feet
imploring your perpetual help.
If earthly mothers cease not to remember their children,
how can you, the most loving of all mothers forget me?
Grant then to me, I implore you,
your perpetual help in all my necessities,
in every sorrow, and especially in all my temptations.
I ask for your unceasing help for all who are now suffering.
Help the weak, cure the sick, convert sinners.
Grant through your intercessions
many vocations to the religious life.
Obtain for us, O Mary, Help of Christians,
that having invoked you on earth
we may love and eternally thank you in heaven.
