Extract
When some Pharisees tried to trick Jesus by asking Him if they should pay taxes to Caesar, Jesus asked them for a coin.
Looking at it he asked, “Whose image is this, and whose inscription?” They replied, “Caesar’s”. Then Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s”. (Mark 12:16-17)
Thought
Perhaps this is still a commonly used trick question in today’s world! Jesus avoided such political discussion and focused on God’s plan!
Reflection
Lord Jesus, may everything that I do today be a worthy offering to you.
Prayer: Lord My God (St Anselm of Canterbury)
O Lord my God.
Teach my heart this day,
where and how to find you.
You have made me and remade me,
and you have bestowed on me all the good things I possess,
and still, I do not know you.
I have not yet done that for which I was made.
Teach me to seek you,
for I cannot seek you unless you teach me,
or find you unless you show yourself to me.
Let me seek you in my desire;
let me desire you in my seeking.
Let me find you by loving you;
let me love you when I find you. Amen.
