In the parable of the Workers in the Vineyard, the landowner hired labourers, throughout the morning and the afternoon. At the end of the day, he paid everyone the same salary, regardless of whether they had worked the whole day or just a single hour!
Why? (Matthew 20:1-16)
It all seemed very unfair especially to those who worked a whole day!
But God, symbolised in the parable by the Landowner, is happy to accept repentant sinners into his Kingdom at all times of their life. Each will receive God’s chosen reward.
It’s never too late to convert!
Lord Jesus, you open your heart to all sinners and invite them to follow your ways. Strengthen my resolve to accept your promises more fully and with greater urgency in my heart.
Prayer: Priests and Religious
St Paul, great convert and Apostle,
guide all priests and religious.
Help them realise that their actions
speak louder than any words.
Teach them to use their talents
to convey God’s message
but, to rely above all,
on the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
