Jesus said the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed. “It is the smallest of all seeds, but when full-grown it is the largest of plants… and the birds of the sky come and nest in its branches”. (Matthew 13:32)
Often we choose sunflower seeds for our children to plant. They are much larger than a mustard seed but children still watch in amazement as they germinate, sprout and grow to over six-foot tall with huge yellow flowers.
It’s also amazing, indeed incomprehensible, for us to understand the power and majesty of the Kingdom of God, but it is well big, in all ways!
Can you describe it?
Lord Jesus, nurture my growth today so that the seed in my heart embraces everyone I meet and lives in everything I do.
May Christ support us all the day long,
till the shadows lengthen,
and the evening comes,
and the busy world is hushed,
and the fever of life is over
and our work is done.
Then in his mercy
may he give us a safe lodging,
and holy rest
and peace at the last. Amen.
