Jesus said to his disciples, “They will put you out of the synagogue, yet a time is coming when the one who kills you will think he is offering service to God. They will do these things because they have not known the Father or me”. (John 16:2-3)
Thought
Those who persecuted the disciples after Jesus’ death often claimed the disciples were blasphemers who intended to overthrow the Jewish faith as established by God.
The same false zeal continues to be used today to persecute and kill Christians throughout our world.
Reflection
Lord Jesus, open the eyes of the intolerant and have mercy on all who are persecuted for their religious beliefs.
Prayer: The Sick
Lord Jesus Christ,
you bore our sufferings and carried our sorrows.
In order to show us clearly,
the value of human weakness and patience,
graciously hear our prayers for the sick.
Grant that those who are weighed down,
with pain and other afflictions of illness,
may realise that they are among the chosen ones,
whom you call blessed.
Help them to understand,
that they are united with you in your sufferings,
for the salvation of the world. Amen.
