Jesus’ parting words to his disciples as he ascended to heaven were, “Do not let your hearts be distressed. There are many dwelling places in my Father’s house. Otherwise, I would have told you, because I am going away to make ready a place for you”. (John 14:1-2)
Thought
How difficult Jesus’ departure must have been for the disciples. Their feelings are likely to have been a great mix of sadness and fear but perhaps, tinged with a little joy. Although Jesus was leaving them, one day they would rejoin Him in paradise, the land of the Saints.
Reflection
Lord Jesus, may we never grow faint on our own journey but retain the courage of the Apostles.
Prayer: The Poor
Lord Jesus, we pray,
that the flames of your Divine love
may burn away all traces of vice within us,
and that we may be practical and zealous
in the service of the poor. Amen.
