Probably, the day after John baptised Jesus, he was standing with two of his disciples when Jesus passed by. John said to them, “Look, there is the Lamb of God. Hearing this the two disciples followed Jesus”.
One of them was Simon and later, Jesus said to him, “You are Simon son of John; you are to be called Cephas, meaning Rock”. (John 1:35-36/42)
Thought
As Jesus selected his disciples, one could perhaps say that he was building his management team with Simon Peter at its head, a role that Pope Francis now holds. It was a great commitment and sacrifice for each when they said, “Yes, I will follow You”.
I wonder, would Jesus have selected me as one of his disciples had I been alive at the time! I doubt it, but he still has a role for me today, to spread his Gospel, if I accept!
Reflection
Lord Jesus, direct Pope Francis in his work today. May everything that he does be guided by your Holy Spirit. Amen
A Prayer – Holy Spirit
Most Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul, I adore You.
Enlighten me, guide me, comfort me, console me.
I promise to submit myself to all You desire of me,
And permit all You wish to happen to me.
Give me Your help, tell me what to do.
Most Holy Spirit, bring peace to my world. Amen.
