Extract
Jesus was happy to sit and eat with sinners and the rejected. St Matthew was one such person. He was despised by the Jewish people because he was a tax collector. Yet, Jesus not only ate with him but chose him to be one of his small group of special people, the Twelve Apostles.
Jesus said, “Those who are healthy don’t need a physician, but those who are sick do”. (Matthew 9:12)

Lord Jesus, enhance my longing to turn away from sin and increase my desire to meet you.
Reflection
Almighty Father, with your grace my heart will be cleansed and my actions renewed. May everything that I do today, please you more than yesterday.
Prayer: Solace
May Christ support us all the day long,
till the shadows lengthen,
and the evening comes,
and the busy world is hushed,
and the fever of life is over
and our work is done.
Then in his mercy
may he give us a safe lodging,
and holy rest
and peace at the last. Amen.
