Jesus Appears To His Disciples In Galilee

Extract

Sketch of the Risen Jesus eating with some of his disciples by the Sea of Galilee

Once again Jesus, the Risen Christ, appeared to a group of his disciples including Simon Peter, Thomas (Didymus), Nathanael (From Cana in Galilee), the sons of Zebedee (James and John), and two other disciples.

On the occasion, they had been fishing all night on the Sea of Tiberius and had caught nothing. In the morning as they approached the shore, “Jesus stood on the beach” and told them to cast their net close to their right. To the disciple’s amazement, they caught 153 large fish.

“Come, have breakfast,” Jesus said. But none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you because they knew it was the Lord”. (John 21:1-14)

Thought

When the disciples arrived on shore, Jesus had breakfast already prepared for them, fish and bread. Both their physical and spiritual needs were being well tended to!

Reflection

Lord Jesus, you dwell in me. Enable me to turn to you and seek your solace.

Prayer: Lord My God (St Anselm of Canterbury)

O Lord my God.
Teach my heart this day,
where and how to find you.

You have made me and remade me,
and you have bestowed on me all the good things I possess,
and still, I do not know you.
I have not yet done that for which I was made.
Teach me to seek you,
for I cannot seek you unless you teach me,
or find you unless you show yourself to me.

Let me seek you in my desire;
let me desire you in my seeking.
Let me find you by loving you;
let me love you when I find you. Amen.
