When Jesus crossed the lake to his hometown, some people brought a paralytic on a stretcher to him. Jesus said to the man, “Have courage, your sins are forgiven”. Immediately, Jewish Elders accused Jesus of blaspheming – only God could forgive sins.
Jesus asked them, “Which is easier to say, your sins are forgiven or… stand up and walk?” They did not answer.
Jesus then healed the paralytic, “so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”. (Matthew 9:1-8)
Jesus praised the paralytic and his stretcher bearers for their faith – probably his family and friends. We all need good friends and to be good friends!
Lord Jesus, your life, death and resurrection gives us hope and strengthens our faith. Grant us perseverance as we face this new day.
Prayer: Be At Peace (St Francis de Sales)
Do not look forward in fear to the changes in life;
rather, look to them with full hope that as they arise,
God, whose very own you are,
will lead you safely through all things;
and when you cannot stand it,
God will carry you in His arms.
Do not fear what may happen tomorrow;
the same understanding Father who cares for you today
will take care of you then and every day.
He will either shield you from suffering
or will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace,
and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.
