John the Apostle was one of the disciples who made a written record of Jesus’ life as he himself experienced it and heard from others.
In the final sentence of his Gospel, he says, “There are many other things that Jesus did. If every one of them were written down, I suppose the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written”. (John 21:25)
Thank you, St John and all Gospel writers. Through your special work, the story of Jesus’ life on earth and his teachings live on.
Lord Jesus, I pray for those who have yet to hear your Gospel. May they come to learn of your promises and, enlightened by your Holy Spirit, live by your teachings.
Remember O Most Gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to Thy protection,
implored Thy help or sought Thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence,
I fly unto Thee O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother;
to Thee, I come; before Thee, I stand,
sinful and sorrowful,
O Mother of the word incarnate,
despise not my petitions;
but in Thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
