Story 103 – Jesus’ Ministry in Galilee: Part 2
We often describe the monetary value of our assets – money, buildings, land, shares, etc as our wealth. It represents the “reward” that we accumulate from our work, employment and businesses.
Jesus had a different reward in mind when he shared his final instructions with his disciples before sending them out to preach his Gospel. He said, “Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me… [They] will receive a righteous person’s reward.” (Matthew 10:40-42)
Having told the disciples that they would face persecution, he now left them with the dream of a wonderful reward ahead, for themselves and those who listened to His teaching.
The freedom of choice, to receive Jesus’ Gospel message, is ours. If we choose to do so, our reward will be great. Jesus assured his disciples of this saying, “For I tell you the truth, whoever gives you a cup of water because you bear Christ’s name will never lose his reward”. (Mark 9:40)
Through the amazing mercy of God, the door to heaven is kept open. We can all ascend by repenting and living as God wants us.
Don’t let the weight of sin keep you from seeking God’s mercy.
Lord Jesus, forgive me my sins. Pour your love and grace on my feeble heart.
Remember O Most Gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to Thy protection,
implored Thy help or sought Thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence,
I fly unto Thee O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother;
to Thee, I come; before Thee, I stand,
sinful and sorrowful,
O Mother of the word incarnate,
despise not my petitions;
but in Thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
