Parable Of The Lamp

Saint-TodaySt Januarius
(Died 305)

St Januarius was born into a rich family at Benevento, Italy. At the young age of 15, he was made Priest of his Parish and at 20, Bishop of Naples.

During the Roman persecution of Christians by Diocletian, St Januarius hid many Christians, saving them from martyrdom. Some of his friends were however arrested and while visiting them in prison he was recognised and also arrested.

Refusing to relinquish his faith, St Januarius was condemned to be “thrown to wild animals” but this was changed to beheading to avoid a public disturbance. He is the Patron Saint of Naples.

ThoughtsThought

Everyone I meet today will be guided by my “light”. The question is, will they see Jesus’ teachings in my behaviour?

ReflectionsReflection

Lord Jesus, give me the strength and courage to stand up and be seen. May I be a shining example to all whom I meet today.

Cross-WhiteA Prayer – Light (Gospel Extracts)

The light of God surrounds me,
the love of God enfolds me,
the power of God protects me,
the presence of God watches over me,
wherever I am, God is,
and where God is, all is perfect.
