Saturday 16th April 2016. Pope Francis travelled to the Greek Island of Lesbos and officially accept twelve Syrian refugees to the Vatican; three families including six children.
Pope Francis prayed at the port for, “All the men, women and children who have died after leaving their homelands in search of a better life.”
He said to the migrants, “I have wanted to be here with you today to speak with you and tell you: You are not alone. You have endured much suffering in your search for a better life, you have made great sacrifices for your families… May the world, the Good Samaritan, come to your aid with respect for human dignity”
Pope Francis met with the Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew, and Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens. He said, “We greeted around 300 of these refugees, one at a time, all three (of us)… Many of them were children. Some of them, these children, have witnessed the deaths of parents and companions,”
